Evaluating EVPs: What Are They Saying?
Evaluating EVPs is a big topic. There is so much ground I could cover but I’m going to keep this simple. Many investigators try to determine what an EVP is saying by having a big group of people huddle around a computer sharing their thoughts. This method is problematic because it can be influenced by groupthink.
If you want to determine what an EVP sounds like get 3-5, or even more people that have never heard the recording. Have each person listen to the recording without any of the other evaluators present. Then have the evaluator write down what they think the recording says. Repeat being careful not to allow any of the evaluators to discuss or see other’s results until the process is complete. This will give you a much better idea of what a human being believes the recording is saying. More evaluators is always better though, at least up to around 1,500:)
Now remember just because your evaluators think they hear a voice, that is not proof it actually is a voice. This method will only help determine what the claimed EVP sounds like.
